Are you an Emory staff member? You might be eligible to get out of network therapy for the cost of your co-pay if you use the Aetna HSA or POS benefits plans. In order to take advantage, you will need to request a Superbill from your licensed provider to submit to Aetna for reimbursement. See more details here on Emory University’s website.

Here are the steps for how to submit a claim:

  • Confirm that your licensed provider can give you a Superbill

  • Request the Superbill from your licensed provider

  • Go to your Aetna account and select Claims, then Submit a Claim

  • Upload the Superbill and fill out the handful of questions on the form

  • You can select how you would like to receive your reimbursement, and the options now include Zelle for a quicker payment

  • The payment will not be for the full cost of the therapy session because you will still have to pay your co-pay, but that is usually around $25. For example, if the therapy session is $175 and your co-pay is $25, you will receive $150 back.

It usually takes a few weeks to get reimbursed, so plan for that cost. If you have questions or concerns, you can also reach out to the member services number on your insurance card to get clarification. Insurance policies are subject to change and may differ individually. For the most personally relevant and up to date information, check with Emory University or Aetna directly.
